I won’t claim that my chart is completely foolproof. In fact, I own a watch that is likely from 1999 and the serial number begins with 99 even though the chart above suggests that number should really be 90. Perhaps, different watches have different serial number patterns.
To obtain watch parts correctly, it is important that Case numbers be used when ordering these parts. Different watch manufacturers place these numbers at different points on the case. This listing is a guide in obtaining the correct number.
- Hamilton used a date letter instead of numbers to replace the first number of the full serial number on some of their movements. The table below shows the letters used for the 992B, 950B & (4)992B movements.
- Watch Serial Number- as mentioned before, we often assume the model is a serial number which is a unique, one-of-a-kind number Chronometer Certificate- while definitely valuable to the watch, the number on the certificate will not help you search for or identify a particular watch.
