Bird Rescue Organizations want one thing most of all, that is to find all their adoptable birds a forever home. Before thinking about Parrot adoption make sure you are committed to providing a Parrot a healthy home for many years to come. This is especially important with species of birds that sometimes have lifespans over many decades.

What Does a Parrot Need in Order to Be Healthy?
Parrots are social creatures just like us and will desire to spend time in the same room with you (and family) during the day and evening. It’s important to provide a Parrot with lot of natural light, as well as give them plenty of opportunities for exercise, which they can get by jumping and hanging, or flying indoors (or a sheltered aviary). Birds eat a variety of foods including seeds, pellets, grains, beans, fruits, and vegetables. Parrot will eat periodically throughout the day and will create a mess around their eating areas. Most birds will also want to vocalize their presence so be prepared for chirping, squawking, and in some cases talking. It’s all to get engaged socially. Very important! Parrots are sensitive to air pollution, and will need fresh air. If you smoke please do not adopt a Parrot as the negative effects of second hand smoke are amplified for birds because with every breath they renew 100% of the air from their lungs. Finally, immediately after adopting a Parrot find a local veterinarian who can give the Parrot checkups, and diagnose any major issues.

He says 'Step up' and offers his foot to you when he wants you to pick him up (which is usually whenever you go by!). Clay often speaks appropriately. He says 'Good night' at bedtime and 'Goodbye' when someone leaves. He waves his foot while he says 'Hi.' He even likes to hang upside down from your hand. As with most parrots, Clay needs and craves lots of attention. He doesn't want to just hang out on top of his cage or on a nearby playstand. He'll climb down from wherever he is and walk right on over to you to get you to interact with him! Also like most parrots, Clay needs a good diet rich in fresh vegetables and fruits, a big cage to call his home while you're away, and lots of toys to destroy. He is a good member of the family and gets along fine with other family pets, including other birds.

Meet Tangradi, a parrot for adoption who is approximately 7 years old. He sports a brilliant flamingo colored crest. Our young man is shy at first but will stand still indefinitely for head scratches and doesn't appear to be cage aggressive. Tangradi is very affectionate, he loves to go outside and play. He enjoys being in the room with you and riding around on your shoulder. Like other parrots he likes to shred wood. His previous owner did say he is extremely affectionate and very handleable, but tends to bond to only one person.

Meet Mickey a 3 year old parrot for adoption. We’ve noticed Mickey is an extremely intelligent bird, who can learn tricks, and mimic sounds in order to build a small vocabulary. Like all parrots, Mickey is very social and will require a lot of interaction to remain happy. He is most happy when in the center of a home’s activity. Micky is a really quiet parrot for adoption and is very sweet. He doesn't like hands, but he is stick trained. He is on a seed diet and we are working on converting him to pellets along with fresh fruits and vegetables. Our dog doesn't seem to upset him nor do small children. This is a wonderful parrot for adoption that someone could have in an apartment or smaller home.
